AMMAN Harnesses Artificial Intelligence to Unlock Greater Mineral Recovery
Every tonne of ore contains valuable minerals—but not every mineral particle is recovered.

For the mining industry, even a small improvement in mineral recovery can translate into significant economic value while ensuring more efficient use of finite natural resources. As ore bodies become increasingly complex and sustainability expectations continue to rise, maximizing the recovery of every valuable mineral has become one of the industry's most important challenges.

To address this challenge, PT Amman Mineral Nusa Tenggara (AMMAN), one of Indonesia's largest copper and gold mining companies, has developed Artificial Intelligence Dashboard Automation (AIDA)—an AI-powered decision support system that helps optimize mineral recovery across its processing operations.

Higher mineral recovery not only creates greater value from every tonne of ore processed but also strengthens mineral conservation by reducing the amount of valuable metals lost to tailings. In doing so, AIDA supports AMMAN's commitment to responsible resource management while improving operational performance.

Turning 25 Years of Data into Smarter Decisions

Behind AIDA is more than 25 years of operational knowledge.

Using millions of historical and real-time data points, AMMAN has built an intelligent decision support system capable of continuously analyzing plant conditions and recommending the optimal operating parameters to maximize recovery.

At the core of the system is Set Point Optimizer, an AI-driven feature that recommends adjustments to critical process variables—including reagent dosage and water flow rates—to help operators achieve the best possible metallurgical performance.

Rather than manually interpreting thousands of constantly changing process variables, metallurgists can now focus on validating AI-generated recommendations and making faster, better-informed operational decisions.

Like an advanced navigation system that helps pilots identify the most efficient flight path under changing weather conditions, AIDA enables plant operators to respond quickly to dynamic operating conditions while maintaining optimal process performance.

Importantly, AIDA is designed to augment—not replace—human expertise.

Every four hours, operations and metallurgy teams review the system's recommendations together, combining AI-driven insights with decades of operational experience before implementing adjustments in the plant. This close collaboration between technology and people is what makes the system effective.

Kartika Octaviana, Vice President of Corporate Communications at AMMAN, said AIDA reflects the Company's broader commitment to leveraging digital innovation to build smarter, more efficient, and more sustainable mining operations.

"AIDA is a reflection of AMMAN's culture of continuous improvement. Through digital transformation, we are not only improving operational efficiency but also strengthening our commitment to mineral conservation. The true value of this initiative lies in the combination of advanced technology and the expertise of our people. When data, innovation, and experience come together, they enable better decisions and better outcomes," said Kartika.

Delivering Measurable Impact

Developing AIDA required far more than building an AI model. AMMAN also reviewed and optimized its entire mineral processing workflow to ensure that sensors, instrumentation, and data collection systems provide accurate, reliable, and high-quality information for the AI to analyze.

The investment has delivered tangible results.

By combining process improvements with AI-driven optimization, AMMAN has increased mineral recovery by approximately 2.5%—a remarkable achievement for an operation such as Batu Hijau, where recovery rates were already among the highest in the industry.

In large-scale mining operations, an improvement of just a few percentage points in mineral recovery can translate into substantially greater resource utilization while significantly reducing the amount of valuable metal remaining in tailings. It is a clear demonstration that digital innovation can create both economic and environmental value.

Through AIDA, AMMAN is redefining how technology supports responsible mining. By combining artificial intelligence with human expertise, the Company is maximizing the value of Indonesia's mineral resources while advancing a more efficient, more sustainable, and increasingly intelligent future for the mining industry.
