Jakarta, 1 October 2022 – PT Amman Mineral Nusa Tenggara (AMMAN) won three Good Mining Practices (GMP) awards in a ceremony on Thursday, 29 September 2022. The recognitions include the Aditama Award for the Mining Environmental Management, and first place honors for Implementation of Mineral and Coal Conservation and Mining Engineering Management.
The GMP Awards is an annual event organized by the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) since 2020. Assistant to the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources for the Implementation of Mineral and Coal Best Practices Irwandy Arif noted in his opening address that “This award demonstrates the appreciation of the government for mining companies that have made efforts to apply good mining engineering principles. This event celebrates the 77th Anniversary of the founding of the precursor organization of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, which falls on 28 September 2022.”
The GMP awards recognize the application of good mining engineering principles in the design, development, implementation and management of mining technology, mineral conservation, safety, environmental impact, site reclamation, and post-decommissioning issues.
Accepting the awards, AMMAN President Director Rachmat Makkasau thanked employees and business partners for their hard work and dedication. “These awards are due to the consistency in pushing ourselves and innovating on an ongoing basis, in order to create the best legacy in everything we do. We dedicate this award to all of our employees and business partners who continue to uphold the AMMAN vision,” explained Rachmat.
Environmental management is an integral component of the Batu Hijau mine operation. Programs to mitigate environmental impact include site reclamation implemented simultaneously with mining activities, rehabilitation of watersheds (DAS), utilization of mine water for processing plant activities, and recycling of 17,000 m3/year of fly and bottom ash (FABA) from coal combustion for road construction.
AMMAN also implements environmental management initiatives beyond the purview of government regulation. The development of a 26.8 MWp Solar Power Plant (PLTS), the largest ground-mounted PLTS in Indonesia for mining operations, is intended to reduce the amount of fossil fuels used to power mine operations. The Spring Protection program (PERMATA) around the Batu Hijau area seeks to safeguard community water resources.
In June 2022, AMMAN began a collaboration with the Department of Marine Affairs and Fisheries of West Nusa Tenggara Province (DKP-NTB) on a five-year program to manage the 5,846 ha Gili Balu Conservation Area through monitoring mangroves, coral reefs, placing reef balls, and developing local resources to realize the ecological, economic, and socio-cultural potential of Gili Balu.
