AMMAN Plants Thousands of Mangrove Seedlings to Preserve West Sumbawa Environment
West Sumbawa, 2 July 2024 — The global focus on addressing desertification, land degradation, and enhancing resilience to drought has gained significant prominence this year as the impacts of climate change are increasingly felt worldwide.

As one of Indonesia’s largest copper and gold mining companies, PT Amman Mineral Nusa Tenggara (AMMAN) strives to preserve the environment through various concrete actions, including mangrove conservation. This initiative aligns with the 2024 World Environment Day theme, promoted by the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK): ‘Resolving the Climate Crisis with Innovation and Principles of Justice’.

In collaboration with the local community, AMMAN has nursed and planted 2,000 mangrove seedlings in the Labuhan Lalar Floating Housing Complex, Taliwang, West Sumbawa Regency (KSB), West Nusa Tenggara (NTB). This activity is part of the ongoing Mangrove-based Curriculum Implementation Assistance program, which saw 3,000 mangrove seedlings planted last February, bringing the total to 5,000 seedlings planted to date.

“The mangrove planting activities we conduct are a testament to AMMAN’s commitment to supporting environmental preservation. This aligns with the company’s commitment to balancing environmental, social, and economic factors to create a legacy of best for future generations,” said Kartika Octaviana, Vice President of Corporate Communications & Investor Relations, PT Amman Mineral Internasional Tbk.

This mangrove planting, which involved 500 participants, including the Labuhan Lalar State Elementary School (SDN), local government, local communities, and AMMAN employees, aims to protect the Labuhan Lalar environment and prevent land degradation due to tides. A maintained mangrove ecosystem will also restore life to marine biota around the area, positively impacting fishermen’s livelihoods.

“In every environmental preservation activity, AMMAN involves the general public, business partners, employees, and government agencies because we believe that this is our shared responsibility, and with collaboration between various parties, our goals will be more easily achieved.” closed Kartika.

AMMAN’s Initiatives for World Environment Day 2024

As part of the 2024 World Environmental Day, AMMAN held various other activities involving the KSB community, government, and employees. These included communal efforts to clean up company operational areas and public facilities such as the Benete public port, rehabilitation competitions for KSB students, and a cleanest-village contest in the district of Maluk involving over 250 employees, business partners, and local government officials.

In line with the 2024 World Environmental Day theme, AMMAN consistently recovers and rehabilitates river watersheds and protects water springs as concrete actions to restore land function and preserve water sources around operational areas.

By collaborating closely with the local community and government, AMMAN hopes that its various environmental conservation efforts will encourage the creation of an environmentally conscious and empowered community.
