West Sumbawa, 14 August 2024 - PT Amman Mineral Nusa Tenggara (AMMAN), one of Indonesia’s largest copper-and-gold mining companies, sent off 32 of the best young football talents from West Sumbawa to participate in Trial Football Training in Java as part of the AMMAN-PSS Sleman Football Fellowship Program for the 2024/2025 season.
AMMAN and PSS Sleman, a national-league team based in the Javanese town of Yogyakarta, began their collaboration in 2023 under the Sports for Development (S4D) program, a key component of AMMAN’s Community Development and Empowerment Program (PPM), focusing on the development of human capital.
AMMAN Vice President of Social Impact Priyo Pramono stated, “This program aims to develop leadership, character, and both mental and physical strength among West Sumbawa youth through football. It also represents our vision of creating a legacy of best for the community by providing opportunities for young generations to fully nurture their talents and potential.”
The S4D program reflects AMMAN’s commitment to empowering communities and youth in West Sumbawa through various sports to facilitate the development of high-quality human resources. It emphasizes character development, leadership skills, awareness of healthy lifestyle choices, and discipline among participants and specifically targets the identification and nurturing of young football talents in the U-16 and U-18 categories.
Priyo added, “We conducted the selection process openly, independently, and transparently, involving PSS Sleman, who has considerable expertise in football and high requirements for young talents as potential athletes. The rigorous evaluation ensures that those who passed the selection possess the highest potential.”
AMMAN-PSS Sleman Football Fellowship Program
The initial selection for the AMMAN-PSS Sleman Football Fellowship Program 2024/2025 was conducted from 2-13 May 2024, involving 400 participants, 200 in the U-16 category and 200 in the U-18 category. In addition to football skills, the evaluation also considered critical psychological and health aspects to support performance during the program. After a stringent selection process, 32 finalists emerged to proceed to the Trial Football Training with PSS Sleman.
Participants will experience intensive training sessions focused on physical, technical, and tactical development, aiming to identify 15 players who will be selected to continue in the Fellowship Program from 26 August 2024 until the end of July 2025.
This program is designed to provide a more intensive advanced training experience, focusing on individual player development in a competitive environment. Throughout the year, professional football coaches at the PSS Sleman Development Center, including the main coaching staff from PSS Sleman, will train and monitor the participants.
“In addition to gaining football knowledge, participants will also attend a school designed to support the needs of young athletes. This is crucial for nurturing talents who maintain strong academic performances as well as excelling in football. We hope this program will inspire the youth of West Sumbawa by creating role models who can motivate succeeding generations to excel in sports,” Priyo said.
Muhammad Nabil Fitrah, one of the young talents selected for this year’s program, expressed, “This is an extraordinary and unforgettable experience for me. Training at PSS Sleman has provided me with new insights into playing football more professionally. I am very grateful to have this opportunity.”
Nabil Fitrah’s mother, Rosdawati, also noted that the program benefits her son’s football talent development and enhances his discipline and teamwork skills. “I am very proud to see my son get the opportunity to participate in this program. Besides football training, he is also learning about discipline and teamwork. This program is very beneficial, and I hope there will be more initiatives like this in the future,” she concluded.
