West Sumbawa, 18 July 2025 - In anticipation of National Children's Day, observed annually on 23 July, West Sumbawa Regency (KSB) demonstrates how collaboration between the government, community, and private sector can truly fulfill children's rights.
PT Amman Mineral Nusa Tenggara (AMMAN), as an active partner through its Community Development and Empowerment Program (PPM), supports KSB's realization as a Child-Friendly Regency. This commitment is reflected in various health, education, and child protection initiatives, aiming to create a safe, healthy, and empowering environment for children to thrive optimally.
Safeguarding Children's Future Through Health and Protection
AMMAN understands that health is the cornerstone of a child's growth and development. Through its Stunting Prevention and Reduction program, AMMAN supports the nutritional needs of toddlers and pregnant women by strengthening governance and activating the government's DASHAT (Healthy Kitchen to Overcome Stunting) program at the village level. These efforts are complemented by providing access to safe drinking water and strengthening Family Assistance Teams. This program has reduced stunting rates by up to 30% in intervention areas.
Additionally, AMMAN continues to promote advocacy and implementation of Community-Based Integrated Child Protection (PATBM) and Women-Friendly and Child-Caring Villages (DRPPA), community approaches that prioritize children's and women's rights in village development and prevent violence.
Nurturing Resilient Generations Through Education and Skills
The PAUD Prestasi program equips teachers with computational thinking methods, fostering children's logic and creativity from an early age. It also encourages fathers to participate actively in parenting. As a result, children's motor, pre-literacy, pre-numeracy, and social-emotional aspects have increased by up to 9% based on IDELA scores.
To develop children's and adolescents' talents, the Sports for Development program provides sports training and scholarships while instilling values of sportsmanship, preventing bullying and drug abuse, and promoting inclusivity through the KSB League for children with disabilities. Meanwhile, the AMMAN Scholars program opens access to vocational education for hundreds of students, equipping them with job-ready skills and preventing child marriage.
Creating Spaces for Play, Learning, and Empowerment
To support the Child-Friendly Regency (KLA) initiative, AMMAN facilitates capacity building for the KLA Task Force and the Children's Forum. AMMAN also initiated the Integrated Child-Friendly Public Space (RPTRA), an inclusive play, learning, and creativity space integrated with women's empowerment and child protection services.
From the perspective of family economics, AMMAN's MSME Development Program — 60% of which are owned by women — promotes household welfare, as empowered mothers ensure their children are well-nourished, stay in school, and avoid early marriage.
Instilling Environmental Awareness from an Early Age
AMMAN also fosters environmental awareness through direct and participatory education. The School Waste Management Program (PPSS) teaches students to sort waste, make compost, plant vegetables, and support school economics. On the other hand, the Blue Program introduces children safely to the ocean through "Surfing Masuk Sekolah" (Surfing Goes to School) and Junior Lifesaving, instilling discipline, self-confidence, and care for the coastal environment.
In the Ecotourism Program, children are directly involved in nature conservation, from collecting trash to planting mangroves, fostering social responsibility and love for the environment.
Opening Future Hopes for Children and Adolescents
AMMAN opens opportunities for out-of-school adolescents through Hospitality Training. This program provides scholarships and training to hundreds of adolescents, equipping them with job skills in the tourism sector, fostering self-confidence and future hope, and serving as social protection to prevent poverty, unemployment, and exploitation.
Priyo Pramono, Vice President of Social Impact AMMAN, stated that AMMAN's programs provide safe play spaces and serve as a bridge to the future built collaboratively through the cooperation of many parties as a form of responsibility to protect children's rights.
“On this National Children's Day, let us celebrate all the efforts and struggles made by all parties in weaving collaborations to open up the widest possible opportunities for children for their bright future. Realizing KSB as a child-friendly regency towards Indonesia's Golden Generation,” he concluded.
