From Benete to Sekongkang: Promoting Road Safety Awareness with AMMAN
West Sumbawa, February 12, 2025 – On January 31, 2025, Benete village in West Sumbawa was abuzz with activity. While some motorcycle taxis were busy ferrying passengers, dozens of drivers gathered for a different purpose: a road safety awareness program organized by PT Amman Mineral Nusa Tenggara (AMMAN).

The drivers listened attentively, many clutching their helmets. These helmets, once seen as mere accessories, are now recognized as essential safety equipment. Traffic rules, often ignored in the past, are now understood as potentially life-saving.

“Activities like this are very important for us motorcycle taxi drivers. Safety is paramount, especially as we face risks on the road every day,” said Mr. Mutajim, 49, a participant in the event.

AMMAN is bringing its road safety campaign to Benete and other locations, reaching various segments of the community. At Maluk Market, for example, mothers learned about safe riding practices through a catchy slogan: ‘Ingat Keluarga, Utamakan Keselamatan Berkendara’ (Think of your family, prioritize safe riding).

Mrs. Erni, 41, a junior high school teacher in Maluk, expressed her enthusiasm for the initiative. “I hope such awareness programs can be conducted in all schools so that children understand the importance of road safety from an early age,” she said.

The following day, the program continued at SMAN 1 Sekongkang. Over 80 students and teachers listened as they learned how small actions, like wearing a standard helmet, can make a significant difference.

“I often see motorcyclists in Maluk and Sekongkang who don't wear standard helmets and ride recklessly. This awareness program is crucial to remind everyone about the importance of safety,” said Zahra Zaitunnisa, an 11th-grade student.

AMMAN employees also participated in the campaign, both as organizers and by sharing their own experiences and insights about safe riding. Their involvement reflects the strong safety culture within AMMAN.

“Safe riding is a shared responsibility. We want to ensure this awareness program has a wide impact, not only within the Batu Hijau site but also in the surrounding community. By understanding and applying safety principles, we can create a safer environment for everyone,” said Kartika Octavia, AMMAN Vice President of Corporate Communications.

This program is part of a series of AMMAN initiatives during National Occupational Health and Safety (K3) Month, running from January 12 to February 12, 2025. These initiatives aim to raise awareness about obeying traffic signs, using standard helmets, and avoiding reckless driving.

From Benete to Sekongkang, the message is clear: road safety is about personal well-being and the loved ones waiting at home.
