West Sumbawa, February 7, 2025 – An extraordinary sight unfolded at Benete Port, West Sumbawa (KSB), West Nusa Tenggara Province (NTB) under a bright morning sky. The MT Lady Eva, a massive Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) tanker, majestically approached the harbor. Measuring 290 x 46 meters—equivalent to more than 1,300 cars—its vast silhouette stretched across the water. In the distance, the deep hum of its engines signaled the importance of this moment. On land, AMMAN’s team stood ready to welcome the largest vessel to dock in Benete’s waters, ensuring its arrival met the highest operational and safety standards.
A Major Step Toward Cleaner Energy
On January 20, 2025, PT Amman Mineral Nusa Tenggara (AMMAN) marked a historic milestone with the successful Trial Berthing of the MT Lady Eva. AMMAN’s Vice President of Corporate Communications, Kartika Octaviana, stated that this trial berthing was part of the licensing process for the operation of AMMAN’s new LNG jetty, which will support LNG storage and regasification facilities. Field verification of the LNG Jetty and its supporting infrastructure included assessments of the mooring system and navigation channels at AMMAN’s Special Terminal.
“This process ensures that all installed systems and equipment are ready to receive the first LNG cargo delivery, planned for Q2 2025. By utilizing LNG as a cleaner energy source for its operations, AMMAN reinforces its commitment to sustainable mining operations,” said Kartika.
The MT Lady Eva plays a crucial role in AMMAN’s LNG facilities by transporting LNG from the Bontang LNG Terminal in East Kalimantan to the Batu Hijau Site. The LNG will power a 450-megawatt gas and steam power plant (PLTGU), supplying electricity to AMMAN’s smelter operations and expansion projects in mining and processing.
The successful Trial Berthing of MT Lady Eva is not just a technical achievement but part of AMMAN’s ongoing journey to push boundaries. AMMAN continues to innovate and build a more advanced, sustainable future for mining. With technology, perseverance, and the courage to think differently, AMMAN proves that the natural resources industry can thrive without compromising sustainability.
