The Untold Stories of AMMAN's Emergency Response Team
West Sumbawa, 10 June 2025 – Behind every safe step taken within the PT Amman Mineral Nusa Tenggara (AMMAN) mining area stands a team that is always on high alert: the Emergency Response Team. They're not just experts in evacuation or firefighting; they are colleagues who are quick to step in when it matters most. For them, safety goes beyond procedures; it's about genuine care, a true expression of empathy, and a shared commitment to protecting one another.

Formed Since Inception, Upholding Safety to This Day

Since its establishment in 2016, AMMAN has formed an Emergency Response Team, also known as Fire Emergency Services (FES). Their role goes far beyond reacting to incidents; they are proactively stationed at high-risk work areas to enhance supervision and ensure faster response times.

FES plays a vital role in strengthening occupational safety across AMMAN’s operations. Their primary responsibilities encompass four stages: prevention, preparedness, response, and recovery. This means they are actively involved in creating a safe workplace even before potential risks appear.

So, what happens when there is no emergency? That's often when they are at their busiest. Their day-to-day duties include standby rescue support at high-risk projects, regular training, from formal courses and certifications to shift drills, and monthly emergency simulations across all work areas. They also provide emergency preparedness training for AMMAN employees and nearby communities.

This team comprises dozens of trained professionals working three shifts andoperating across eight fire stations throughout the Batu Hijau site. This setup ensures 24/7 readiness and rapid response in every part of the mining operation.

From Mining Operations to National Humanitarian Missions

AMMAN's FES team's commitment isn't confined to the company's operational areas. When disaster strikes, they don't hesitate to step in, whether in the surrounding operational region or remote parts of the country affected by calamity.

At the local and regional levels, they frequently assist with fire suppression, deploy dive teams for search and rescue operations for drowning victims, and send aid during floods and earthquakes.

Their contribution extends to the national level. During the Lombok Earthquake of 2018, AMMAN's FES team successfully evacuated victims trapped for two days under rubble. They also joined the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources' emergency response team during the Palu Earthquake and Tsunami in 2018 and assisted during the Bima floods (2021) and the Cianjur Earthquake (2022).

In providing humanitarian aid, AMMAN's FES team always coordinates with the National Agency for Disaster Management (BNPB), the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), or the National Search and Rescue Agency (BASARNAS). This collaboration ensures that every disaster response is effective and efficient, aligned with field directives and needs.

The presence and performance of AMMAN's FES team stand as clear proof of the company's commitment to protecting its people and facilities. They contribute to creating a safe and productive work environment where everyone can carry out their duties with peace of mind, knowing that a team is always ready to protect them.
