Jakarta, 5 August 2024 - PT Amman Mineral Nusa Tenggara ("AMNT"), a subsidiary of PT Amman Mineral Internasional Tbk ("AMMAN"), has received The Copper Mark for the Batu Hijau mine in West Sumbawa, Indonesia. AMNT met most of the criteria set by The Copper Mark, a leading certification for responsible copper-production practices.
President Director of AMNT Rachmat Makkasau stated that The Copper Mark serves as evidence of the company's commitment to implementing international standards in environmental, social, and governance (ESG) management. “AMNT always prioritizes sustainability principles in every operational aspect. We achieved this milestone thanks to the dedication and collaboration of all employees who support our sustainability strategy and implementation. We continually enhance our strategies to prevent, reduce, and address any adverse impacts on people and the environment that may arise from our operations. These efforts will be sustained to ensure full compliance with The Copper Mark criteria,” explained Rachmat.
The Copper Mark’s assessment references several criteria for responsible production at participating copper producers' sites. These criteria are determined by the Risk Readiness Assessment, created and owned by the Responsible Minerals Initiative. The Risk Readiness Assessment includes core expectations for achieving responsible production across key ESG issues.
AMMAN has been undergoing this assessment since September 2023, when the company signed a Letter of Commitment (LoC) with The Copper Mark, an independent, multi-stakeholder organization established and developed by the International Copper Association in December 2019. The organization is led by a Board of Directors and a Multi-stakeholder Advisory Council consisting of experts in environmental and human rights fields.
