AMNT Receives National Vital Object Security Certification from Indonesian National Police
Jakarta, 11 July 2024 - PT Amman Mineral Nusa Tenggara (AMNT), one of the biggest copper-and-gold mining companies in Indonesia, received National Vital Object Security Management System (SMP Obvitnas) certification from the Indonesian National Police for operations of the Batu Hijau mine in Sumbawa, Indonesia. This certification is based on Presidential Decree No. 63 of 2004 concerning the Security of National Vital Objects and Indonesian Police Regulation No. 7 of 2019 regarding the provision of security assistance for national vital objects.

Audit results and clarification of audit results of the company’s SMP Obvitnas implementation returned a compliance score of 90.44%, placing AMNT in the Gold category. The audit covered five security aspects: Commitment & Policy, Security Procedures, Security Configuration, Security Implementation Capability, and Monitoring & Evaluation.

Police Commissioner General Mohammad Fadil Imran, who heads the Indonesian Police Security Maintenance Agency (Kabaharkam), and Police Brigadier General Suhendri, S.H., S.I.K of the Indonesian Police Directorate of Vital Object Security presented the Gold certificate to AMNT President Director Rachmat Makkasau at the Birawa Assembly Hall of the Hotel Bidakara in Pancoran, Jakarta, on Monday (8/7/2024).

Rachmat expressed that the certification affirms that AMNT is committed to implementing best practices in operational-area security management.

“The Batu Hijau mining operation is a vital object and a strategic revenue source for both central and local governments. Data from 2023 shows the AMNT contribution to the Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) of West Sumbawa reached 82%. We will also implement the robust security management system in our other operational areas, including the AMMAN smelter project, which is a National Strategic Project,” Rachmat explained.

As of 31 May 2024, the AMMAN smelter project has been independently verified as 95.5% completed for both physical construction and mechanical facilities. The remaining 5% is the current commissioning phase.

“The AMMAN smelter project is now undergoing commissioning, planned to last five months from early June. One of the commissioning stages includes feeding copper concentrate into the smelter. Additionally, the first copper cathode production is scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2024,” he added.

Rachmat emphasized that this certification is crucial for the compliance level and for enhancing strategic steps to eliminate potential threats, vulnerabilities, and disruptions, ensuring systematic management of the company’s operational security. Since early 2023, preparation and assessment stages have been conducted under the close supervision and monitoring of the Directorate of Vital Object Security of the Indonesian Police Security Maintenance Corps.

Throughout 2023, AMMAN conducted SMP Obvitnas workshops for employees, organized internal SMP Obvitnas auditor training and certification in collaboration with the Indonesian Police Certification Institute, certified chief security guards by the National Professional Certification Agency (BNSP), and conducted security risk assessments across all operational areas. Additionally, to strengthen security measures, the company signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and Technical Work Guidelines for National Vital Object Security Services with the West Nusa Tenggara Regional Police.
