Jakarta, 31 July 2024 - In recognition of its ongoing child-protection and rights-fulfillment programs, PT Amman Mineral Nusa Tenggara (AMMAN) received two awards at the 2024 Child-Friendly Company Awards event organized by the Indonesian Child-Friendly Companies Association (APSAI) at the Ministry of Women Empowerment and Child Protection (KPPPA) office in Jakarta on Monday, 29 July 2024. In the event attended by KPPPA Minister Bintang Puspayoga, AMMAN was awarded first place in the Child-Friendly Company category and an award for Pioneering Child-Friendly Company Initiatives in West Sumbawa (KSB), having played a key role in establishing APSAI in KSB and chairing the organization.
The Child-Friendly Company Awards (PLA) recognize companies’ commitment to supporting government policies regarding child protection. APSAI adheres to ten principles of Business Practices based on Children’s Rights and Business Principles (CRBP), which serve as the foundation for the PLA awards. These principles are implemented through policies, programs, and products developed by companies to contribute to child protection, extending beyond mere Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities.
KPPPA Minister Bintang Puspayoga expressed his appreciation, stating, “We highly value the efforts made by APSAI as the government’s partner in initiating this award. Companies receiving the PLA demonstrate an extraordinary commitment to the future of children. We hope this award motivates other companies to prioritize children’s rights in every aspect of their business. We look forward to APSAI’s growth and significant contribution towards realizing the envisioned Golden Generation 2045 and creating a child-friendly Indonesia.”
APSAI Chairperson Wida Septarina Wijayanti added, “This award acknowledges the unwavering commitment of companies and the private sector to fulfilling children’s rights in Indonesia. We hope this award can inspire more companies to become advocates for children in Indonesia.”
AMMAN Vice President of Social Impact Priyo Pramono also appreciated the award. “This award shows that as one of Indonesia’s largest copper-and-gold-mining companies, AMMAN is fulfilling our commitment to protecting and promoting children’s rights in our operational areas by respecting and acknowledging fundamental child-protection principles. Our most valuable investment is human resources; children are our future leaders. We will continue integrating children’s rights into our business and operational strategies to ensure that our company invests in a better business - now and in the future.”
AMMAN has implemented several programs aimed at youth development through Community Development and Empowerment (PPM) program pillars focused on human-resource development. These programs include skill enhancement for youth, vocational education, sports for development, early childhood education, awareness-raising on reproductive health and HIV/AIDS prevention, support for the KSB Child Forum, and improving health and nutrition for mothers and children.
Policies and initiatives to uphold children’s rights in operational areas include a commitment to prohibiting child labor, establishing child safety and rescue procedures, ensuring protection to support growth and development, and recognizing children’s rights in the broader environment. The AMMAN town site in Batu Hijau is a child-friendly facility. The Buin Batu school is fully equipped with resources to support educational development. At the same time, the townsite has playgrounds, green open spaces (RTH), health clinics, parenting classes, and sports facilities.
Strengthening Child-Friendly Implementation in KSB
AMMAN also supports Indonesian government efforts through a Memorandum of Understanding signed between the KSB government and AMMAN to collaborate on the Child-Friendly Regency (KLA) Program in KSB. Ongoing and projected programs supporting KLA include addressing and preventing stunting, strengthening the KLA task force, and designing and developing a master plan for Integrated Child-Friendly Public Spaces (RPTRA) for their establishment, management, and maintenance in KSB.
Priyo added, “AMMAN recognizes that children and adolescents are integral to building a community with vast potential for growth and maximizing future opportunities. This follows our vision of creating a Legacy of Best for society. We believe this award will also expedite efforts for KSB to become a Child-Friendly Regency and contribute towards realizing the Golden Generation of Indonesia,” he concluded.
