AMMAN Signed Contracts with JEL & PT JEL for Power Plant Expansion Projects

Jakarta, August 29th, 2022 – PT Amman Mineral Nusa Tenggara (AMMAN) signed an equipment supply agreement with Jurong Engineering Limited (JEL) and a lump sum turnkey engineering procurement and construction agreement with PT Jurong Engineering Lestari (PT JEL) for the Batu Hijau Combined Cycle Power Plant-1 (BHCCPP-1) Project on Friday (August 26th, 2022). The hybrid signing ceremony was witnessed by the management team of AMMAN, JEL, PT JEL, and Siemens Energy AB from their headquarters in Jakarta, Singapore, and Sweden.

The BHCCPP-1 will be built as part of AMMAN’s strategy of increasing the power supply to support its growing operations – including mining, processing, and smelting – in West Sumbawa Regency, West Nusa Tenggara Province. The plant configuration is two blocks each comprising three gas turbines generators, three heat recovery steam generators and one steam turbine generator. The thermal efficiency of the BHCCPP-1 will be the among the highest in the region for industrial power plants.

AMMAN’s President Director, Rachmat Makkasau reiterated AMMAN’s commitment to sustainable operations by stating, “We are proud to be amongst the first companies in this region to transition into gas, a cleaner energy source with less carbon emission. AMMAN is using the most efficient gas turbine as well as state-of-the-art technology for low-NOx burners to ensure that we comply with the most stringent environmental emissions guidelines, such as Europe or IFC/World Bank standards.”

JEL is the equipment supplier and provider of related offshore services for the 450 MW (gross) gas based BHCPP-1. JEL’s scope of work consists of supply and delivery of major equipment and the associated engineering for the plant. Separately, PT JEL is  the construction and commissioning contractor for the project.

The Managing Director & CEO of JEL, Koichi Watanabe, expressed his appreciation for the trust given by AMMAN. “We are proud to be associated with AMMAN in this prestigious project. Furthermore, with our engineering capabilities in building power plants across various technologies while maintaining the highest safety record and keeping to the schedule, we are confident that this project will be a successful one,” said Koichi Watanabe.

“As one of the biggest copper and gold mining company in Indonesia, we want to contribute to the decarbonization efforts, especially understanding that the demand for copper products will keep increasing due to the world vision for a net-zero economy,” concluded Rachmat.
