Digital platforms have revolutionized the way information is disseminated, but they also come with their fair share of challenges. One of the biggest concerns is the rapid spread of misinformation. False news can now reach millions of people within seconds, thanks to the power of social media and other digital channels. This poses a significant threat to the credibility of conventional journalistic platforms.
Conventional media outlets, such as newspapers and television stations, are struggling to compete with the allure of digital platforms. The instant delivery of compelling graphics and sensational headlines to smartphones and tablets has captivated audiences worldwide. It’s no wonder that conventional media is finding it difficult to keep up.
Recognizing the importance of accurate information in building a sustainable economy, AMMAN has taken a proactive approach. In collaboration with the Journalism Education Institute (LPJ) of the national news agency ANTARA, AMMAN recently organized a convergence journalism workshop for the Indonesian Journalists Association (PWI) of West Sumbawa (KSB). The workshop, held in Senggigi on the neighboring island of Lombok on 6 – 8 October 2023, aimed to enhance the skills of journalists and equip them to become multi-tasking professionals.
Convergence journalism is the practice of presenting information on both conventional and digital platforms. This includes social media, podcasts, and video streaming, with the presentation style tailored to the target audience. By integrating various media platforms, journalists can provide richer, deeper, and more diverse content to readers and viewers.
The workshop covered advanced digital techniques, ranging from AI-based journalism to search engine optimization (SEO). Participants had the opportunity to learn and upgrade their skills, enabling them to adapt to various platforms and reach a wider audience. Ilham Syahroni, a participant journalist from Suara NTB, expressed gratitude for AMMAN’s support, stating that it would enhance the competence of journalists from KSB.
Head of the Bureau News Agency Antara NTB, Riza Fahriza, emphasized the importance of integrating different media forms to create stronger narratives and engage audiences in a more interactive way. This approach allows media professionals to utilize the strengths of each platform and deliver impactful stories.
AMMAN firmly believes that a company’s sustainability is closely linked with community development. This includes KSB journalists, who serve as crucial intermediaries for providing accurate information. By empowering journalists with the skills needed to navigate the digital landscape, AMMAN is supporting the efforts to provide the people of West Sumbawa with the accurate information they need.
