Building the Future of Mining: AMMAN’s Journey of Technological Innovation
West Sumbawa, 21 April  2025 — In the heart of the Indonesian island of Sumbawa, PT Amman Mineral Nusa Tenggara (AMMAN) is driving the technological advancement of Indonesia’s mining industry. In the Batu Hijau copper-and-gold mine, AMMAN’s high-technology applications improve productivity, strengthen safety measures, and support the achievement of environmental goals.

From precise blasting to smelting, AMMAN demonstrates how technology, when integrated into an efficient operational environment, can boost productivity while lowering costs. A strong focus on workplace safety reinforces the company’s role in building a sustainable future for the mining sector.

Technology Across the Mining Value Chain

High-tech innovation begins at the pit floor. AMMAN employs 4D Blasting modelingwith finely controlled detonations to fragment ore into the optimal size for subsequent processing, increasing process-chain efficiency. Laser scanners track material from shovel to stockpile, enabling an accurate, real-time inventory of material volume and quality.

In the processing chain, the Froth Crowder compresses the ore froth into a smaller area, enhancing copper recovery and strengthening the overall effectiveness of the separation process.

At the smelter, AMMAN applies Double Flash Smelting—a two-stage process using oxygen and natural gas—to produce high-purity copper cathodes. This method combines technical accuracy with efficient resource use.

Safety as a Core Priority

A significant portion of this high-tech is employed to enhance the most important component of the operation: a highly skilled, dedicated7ui workforce. AMMAN uses extensive training, targeted safety programs, and monitoring tools to protect its workforce. Regular campaigns and health tracking systems are part of a broader effort to maintain safe working conditions.

In 2024, AMMAN achieved a Total Reportable Injury Frequency Rate (TRIFR) of 0.98. According to  industry standards, this metric places AMMAN among the safest mining operators in the world.

"At AMMAN, we look for ways to improve each stage of our operations through the use of appropriate technologies," said Kartika Octaviana, Vice President of Corporate Communications at PT Amman Mineral Internasional Tbk. "This approach reflects good mining practices and supports long-term business performance."

"AMMAN is committed to making the most of its mineral resources to bring value to the company, the people of West Nusa Tenggara, and the country. At Batu Hijau, we are focused not just on extraction, but on building a more sustainable future through practical innovation, strong safety practices, and a commitment to progress," Kartika concluded.
