West Sumbawa, 31 January 2025 — Dozens of employees from PT Amman Mineral Nusa Tenggara (AMMAN) and its business partners gathered in front of a large white banner during the opening ceremony of National Occupational Health and Safety Month (BK3N) some time ago. Together, they signed the banner, which bore a commitment to workplace safety.
Yulius Rony, an AMMAN employee responsible for workplace safety and health, was one of the many participants in this initiative. For Rony, as he is commonly known, this signing moment held special meaning after nearly three years of working at AMMAN.
"This commemoration isn't just a ceremony; it's a reminder that each signature represents a commitment. Safety isn't simply a regulation; it's a shared responsibility," said Rony, who has worked at AMMAN for nearly three years. "My commitment extends to my entire team. We adhere to OHS with discipline, always mindful that families are waiting for us to return home safe and healthy."
As one of Indonesia's largest copper and gold mining companies, AMMAN prioritizes fostering a safe and healthy work environment. This year's BK3N theme, ‘Strengthening Human Resource Capacity to Support the Implementation of the Occupational Health and Safety Management System (SMK3) to Enhance Productivity,’ reflects this commitment. Kartika Octaviana, AMMAN's Vice President of Corporate Communications, emphasized the company's goal of embedding an OHS culture in every individual, both inside and outside the workplace.
"Our OHS campaign goes beyond the basics of helmets, vests, and other personal protective equipment (PPE)," explained Octaviana. "We provide comprehensive training and outreach programs to cultivate OHS as a deeply ingrained culture and lifestyle. We believe that prioritizing OHS not only protects our employees but also enhances productivity and ensures the sustainability of our business."
AMMAN's BK3N 2025 program includes a range of interactive and educational activities designed to engage all segments of the community. These initiatives include mining safety and health seminars for employees, sports competitions, and safety campaigns for communities surrounding the Batu Hijau mine in West Sumbawa. The outreach extends to "Safety Goes to Campus" programs at Sumbawa Technical University, road safety initiatives, and disaster response training.
I Gede Putu Aryadi, Head of the West Nusa Tenggara Provincial Labor and Transmigration Office, commended AMMAN's proactive approach. "AMMAN has set a commendable example in implementing an OHS culture," stated Aryadi. "The chosen theme is particularly relevant, as human resources are a company's most valuable asset."
By engaging diverse stakeholders and promoting innovation in its safety initiatives, AMMAN demonstrates that OHS is not merely a company obligation, but a valuable investment in the future of the industry and the broader community.
