Jakarta, 9 April 2026 – PT Amman Mineral Nusa Tenggara (AMMAN), one of Indonesia’s largest copper and gold mining companies, recently earned the Green PROPER rating from the Ministry of Environment (KLH) of the Republic of Indonesia. This prestigious rating was awarded in recognition of AMMAN’s commitment that goes beyond compliance in environmental management, as well as its local community development and empowerment initiatives. The achievement was officially honored at the ‘PROPER Environmental Awards’ held by the Ministry on April 7, 2026, in Jakarta.
During the event, Hanif Faisol Nurofiq, Minister of Environment and Head of the Environmental Control Agency, expressed his appreciation for companies dedicated to strengthening national environmental resilience.
“This achievement is expected to be more than just an award; it should serve as momentum to continuously improve the quality of sustainable environmental compliance. It is vital to remember that the PROPER instrument is not merely a technical assessment, but a form of national trust and sovereignty that we must uphold together to drive a greener and more responsible industrial performance,” stated Hanif.
Affirming the company’s commitment to responsible and sustainable operational practices, Kartika Octaviana, Vice President of Corporate Communications at AMMAN, highlighted that the Green PROPER rating reflects values consistently applied across all operational activities.
“Achieving the Green PROPER rating is a manifestation of AMMAN’s integrity in implementing responsible and sustainable operations. We believe that sustainability is a strategic long-term investment. Therefore, our commitment does not stop at mere compliance; we continue to drive innovation to create measurable positive impacts for the environment and the communities surrounding our operational areas,” Kartika added.
Innovations Ranging from Energy Efficiency to Waste Utilization
A key pillar of AMMAN’s Green PROPER achievement is its implementation of various energy efficiency initiatives. AMMAN has expanded its use of renewable energy by operating a 26.8-megawatt peak (MWp) Solar PV plant, currently the largest ground-mounted solar facility for mining operations in Indonesia. This effort is bolstered by the construction of a 450 MW Combined Cycle Power Plant (CCPP) power plant. Utilizing CCPP as part of the energy transition phase will significantly reduce emission intensity compared to coal-based power generation.
Beyond high-capital investments, AMMAN also explores innovation within routine operations. One such example is the replacement of SAG Mill liners to reduce energy intensity in the ore processing stage—a first-of-its-kind implementation in the mining sector.
Furthermore, AMMAN has introduced innovations in waste management. This includes the careful management of non-hazardous waste, such as used cardboard. Previously sent to third parties, these cellulose-based materials are now repurposed as organic mulch for land reclamation. This provides a more economical and accessible solution while reducing waste, embodying the circular 3R (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) principles.
Conservation and Community Empowerment Programs
Moving beyond its immediate operational boundaries, AMMAN implements environmental preservation efforts in surrounding areas by managing conservation zones and coastal ecosystems across eight islands in northwestern Sumbawa, known as Gili Balu. Marine ecosystem restoration programs include artificial coral reefs, sea turtle conservation, underwater biodiversity monitoring, and community empowerment through sustainable tourism development.
AMMAN’s community empowerment initiatives also focus on sustainable value creation. In the Sekongkang District of West Sumbawa Regency, more than 125 families are actively involved in processing organic waste into marketable products. By 2025, tens of thousands of kilograms of waste had been successfully managed, generating economic value for the community while fostering more environmentally conscious behavior.
Additionally, through a community-based nursery program, local residents play a direct role in providing seedlings for reclamation needs. This initiative demonstrates that environmental restoration can serve as a sustainable source of livelihood for local citizens.
With this achievement, AMMAN reaffirms its commitment to continuously go beyond compliance standards and play an active role in supporting sustainable development that provides long-term benefits for the environment and the people of Indonesia.
