Jakarta, 11 October 2024 - PT Amman Mineral Nusa Tenggara (AMMAN) won the Subroto Award 2024 in the category of ‘Most Innovative Community Development and Empowerment in Mineral Sector’ under the ‘Social and Cultural’ category on Thursday (10/10/2024) in Jakarta. This prestigious energy and mineral resources sector event is organized annually by the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM).
AMMAN won the award for the Mantar Berseri program, a cultural weaving development initiative conducted in the village of Mantar in the Poto Tano district of West Sumbawa (KSB) in West Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia. Collaborating with the implementation partner of Digital Tenun Nusantara (DiTenun), this program aims to preserve the local weaving culture, enhance production quality and quantity, and strengthen the entrepreneurial and institutional capacity of weaving groups in KSB.
Tentun Mantar (Mantar Weaving) is a cultural asset with the potential to support KSB’s tourism industry because the products are durable, easily exported, and have become colorful woven fabrics and popular souvenirs. AMMAN selected Mantar Weaving for assistance as it reflects the company’s commitment to ensuring the sustainability of traditions with significant cultural and social value for the KSB community.
As one of Indonesia’s largest copper-and-gold mining companies, AMMAN continues to develop several Community Development and Empowerment (PPM) initiatives that generate sustainable impacts. PT Amman Mineral Nusa Tenggara President Director Rachmat Makkasau explained that AMMAN’s social programs are a forward-looking plan designed to prepare communities to remain economically empowered when the mines eventually cease operations.
“We are grateful for the recognition by the ESDM Ministry through this Subroto Award. AMMAN continually works with KSB communities to identify economic potentials suitable for sustainable development. We strive to empower small businesses that can grow and become pillars of the local economy and job creation,” explained Rachmat.
Sri Devi, the Mantar Berseri Weaving Group chairperson, also expressed her appreciation for implementing this program. “We are very grateful to AMMAN and all parties who have allowed us to learn and develop our craft. Thanks to this program, we can continue our ancestral tradition and realize an income,” said Sri.
Key to the program’s success is collaboration with KSB government agencies such as the Regional National Crafts Council, the Department of Industry and Trade, Cooperatives and SMEs, and the local government and Family Welfare Empowerment agency of the village of Mantar. The synergy and solid support from official bodies complement the program’s implementation by enhancing capacity and providing infrastructural services, ensuring the program’s sustainability to provide continuous benefits to the weaving community.
The Subroto Award for Most Innovative Mineral PPM is given to Mining Businesses with Mineral Commodities that propose PPM programs emphasizing novelty, effectiveness, usefulness, sustainability, replication, and impact from implementing eight PPM fields, thereby providing maximum benefits to the community.
