PT Amman Mineral Nusa Tenggara (Amman) provides a scholarship program for basic heavy equipment engineering and operator training for the young generation in West Sumbawa Regency (KSB), West Nusa Tenggara Province (NTB). In establishing the program and curriculum, Amman partners with United Tractors (UT) School, the only vocational education institution for heavy equipment operation in Indonesia. UT School has proven its ability to generate reliable graduates and experts across various industries.
The first batch of 30 scholarship awardees was sent to Magelang and Jakarta to undergo one-year comprehensive training. The kick-off ceremony was held on Saturday morning (Jan 2nd, 2021) at the Bala Sangkaladi Building. All of the awardees graduated from Vocational High School (SMK) or the equivalent from the area surrounding the Batu Hijau site (Sekongkang, Maluk, and Jereweh Sub-Districts). These awardees were selected from among 180 registrants, where all of them went through rigorous selection phases, including administrative and psychological tests, interviews, and medical check-ups.
The Head of Social Impact of Amman, Yudha Jayadikarta explained that this scholarship was part of the empowerment and community development programs of Amman. “The scholarship program aims to create sustainable impact, where these future leaders can obtain not only hard skills but also leadership and management skills,” said Yudha.
Some local government representatives participated in the kick-off ceremony, including the Head of the Manpower and Transmigration Agency (DISNAKERTRANS), Head of the Education and Culture Agency (DIKBUD), Head of Sub-District of Sekongkang, Maluk, and Jereweh. “We fully support this vocational training program to prepare our young generation to go into the professional world. I believe this program will also help companies across Indonesia to find the best talents in heavy equipment operations,” said Muslimin, Head of the KSB Disnakertrans.
Harifandani, one of the awardees, said he was very excited to start the training. “I am very excited but nervous at the same time. This is going to be my first time away from home. But with the support from my parents, I believe I can finish this training well,” said Harifandani.
Amman will continue expanding vocational scholarship programs for local communities to develop human capital, one of the national development priorities. This program is also in line with one of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which is to provide learning opportunities for all.
