Zero Fatality 2025: AMMAN Closes the Year by Strengthening Safety Culture
West Sumbawa, 30 December 2025 – With every shift change, thousands of workers at Batu Hijau begin their day with a simple hope: to return home safely. This year, that hope remains fulfilled. PT Amman Mineral Nusa Tenggara (AMMAN), one of Indonesia’s largest copper and gold mining companies, concluded 2025 with a Zero Fatality achievement. For AMMAN, this is not merely a statistic; it is a promise kept to the families waiting at home.

In a mining industry known for constant safety and health risks, AMMAN manages hazards systematically through an Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) management system integrated into daily operations. This includes procedural compliance, regular audits, and real-time monitoring to ensure potential hazards are addressed before they escalate into incidents. These practices align with Good Mining Practices and Indonesia’s SMKP (Mining Safety Management System), as referenced in Law No. 4 of 2009 and the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Regulation No. 26 of 2018.

The Foundation of Safe Behavior

A key pillar of AMMAN’s success in maintaining a safe working environment is the implementation of the 8 Vital Behaviors. These are eight non-negotiable principles that serve as a vital moral compass for every individual at the mine site.

In essence, these eight safety principles govern fundamental conduct, ranging from mandatory competency and permits before operating equipment, to the prohibition of unauthorized modifications of safety devices, and discipline in energy isolation procedures. The rules also emphasize technical aspects such as working at heights, confined spaces, and load-lifting procedures.

Even matters often overlooked in daily life—such as wearing seatbelts and the ban on using mobile phones while operating vehicles—stand as pillars of discipline held in high regard. The success of this Zero Fatality achievement is also inseparable from various creative campaigns conducted throughout the year. These include ‘Safety Stand Downs’ (brief operational halts for safety reflection), the ‘Safety Award’ program, and joint inspections with leadership. AMMAN aims to ensure that safety messages are not just displayed on posters but pulse through the heart of every worker. This approach reflects the company’s commitment to being a safe workplace where cutting-edge technology synergizes with human conscience to create sustainability.

Involving Business Partners

Safety at AMMAN extends beyond its direct employees; business partners are also actively involved through the same key performance indicators as the company. Practices such as safety interactions, safety inspections, and safety meetings are standard requirements for AMMAN’s business partners. Periodic evaluations are enforced to ensure consistency in OHS management, including for the partners' Operations Managers (PJO).

The Zero Fatality achievement in 2025 reaffirms that large-scale operations can run in harmony with safety as the top priority—for the sake of the workers, their families, and the community in Batu Hijau.
